Attacks on Indian Journalists, 2016-2017

May 3 is declared as the World Press Freedom day by the United Nations. In this context, let us dig a little into the safety of journalists in our country.

Indian journalists in the last year have witnessed 78 direct attacks/threats. They were threatened by different entities including illegal mafia (sand mining, construction, liquor), political leaders or supporters, police, lawyers, mob, Twitter trolls etc. The attacks are spread across 47 cities in 21 states/UTs. The names of journalists are displayed wherever it is provided.
